The primary colors for digital processing are red, green, and blue. Historically, red-setting on color gelatin prints was performed by overlapping magenta and yellow filters. Adjustment of magenta and yellow gels also affected exposure values.
In digital curve settings, red has its own channel. What most photographers don’t know, and what you should really ponder, is that one should adjust the layer of the composite RGB curve to match the opposite of the red channel curve.

1: the right film

2: precise film processing
Description: Processing toxic color photographs requires very precisely temperature-controlled chemical baths. There is little margin for error due to this. Every step in film processing requires maximum precision and must be very well understood by the developer.
3: expert engraving
Description: Engraving experts use layers of color gels to adjust the lamp that will expose the colored jelly paper with the image in the film negative. Adding or removing the red color of the lamp also affects the amount of light, therefore requires adjustment of the exposure values. Adjusting blue or green colors does not affect exposure values when making color gelatin prints.
The color process has completely evolved digitally. In addition to the actual exposure with a camera and lens, the film’s steps have disappeared. Digital color management
Take a reading with a calibrated light meter in the associated lighting environment to calculate the most accurate exposure value
Capture a RAW image of a color target in that lighting environment
Postproduction: Set the correct color temperature of the image and create a curve fit so that each swatch matches the corresponding theoretical values of the Color Checker. This could be done on a calibrated monitor, but that is not necessary.
Make a print with a raster image processor, making sure to configure the profile to match the loaded paper. Also, the profile should ideally be one created specifically for the light source under which your impression will be displayed
You should be aware that historically it has been easier to produce realistic color on film than digital, but there is still much more control and possibility to achieve greater realism with greater precision. In the days of the film, there was no color objective that could aid the printing process. With digital, we can be absolutely sure that a particular color in a photograph represents its theoretical value.
